Keepers of the Dark
Zuleica Lunar Calendar 2024

The Zuleica Lunar calendar offers to be used as a tool in order to understand time in a way that it has been understood throughout human history, by observing the phases of the moon. Each lunar cycle is decorated by mandalas of 12 different artists. This selected illustration was inspired by an article called Keepers of the Dark from Gossamer Magazine. The article talks about how important the "Night" is for us humans and for the ecosystem along with its nocturnal animals. In depth it talks about being mindful about (City) light pollution as it confuses nocturnal creatures. It emphasizes on disconnecting from artificial light and take time to embrace the night, a time to reflect and connect with nature. India ink was used for the creation of this project. The calendar photograph was later taken on Lunar New Year celebration in Chinatown, NYC.
